About the Designer: Stein Nilsen, born in 1934, has for a number of years been the man behind several of the bestselling ranges offered by the glassworks. He has been a full-time designer since 1955. He started working with Magnor Glassverk as early as 1972. Timeless, popular ranges such as Skute and Villmark came into being on account of his dependable design. Baltazar (1994)/ and Brazil (1997) is example of bold, colourful designs which show his range. Having been educated at Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustriskole (the National College of Arts, Crafts and Design) in Oslo, Stein Nilsen has his feet firmly on the ground as regards Norwegian crafts. He finds inspiration in the ancient art of the glass blower and in the colour, light and shape of the glass itself. He creates products which give a feeling of direct contact with earlier generations. “Crafting glass is an old art which constantly offers new opportunities,” he says of his wideranging production. “It’s a fantastic material.
