About the Designer: “Being able to work with glass seems like a huge privilege,” says Gro Eriksson, who was born in 1956 and has worked as a glass designer since 1991, including at Hadeland and Randsfjord Glassworks. Since starting working with Magnor Glassverk in 1998, her ranges Stim and Krummelur have come into being thanks to her joyful, free design. Gro Eriksson studied History of Art as a subsidiary subject at the University of Oslo and completed her studies in Book Craft at Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustriskole (the National College of Arts, Crafts and Design) in Oslo. For almost ten years she worked with book design and illustration, and she has worked as an illustrations editor for a number of major book projects, including the Saint Olav Bible. She has received a number of awards for Most Beautiful Books of the Year. In addition, she has worked with tin and other materials. In her designs, Gro Eriksson attempts to bring about excitement and flexibility. This results in a pure, clear expression whereby the glass has a genuine distinctive character. Her inspiration is derived from the glass art of past times, via 17th-Century Venice and the wine glasses of the 18th Century, and particularly philosophy from the Scandinavian Design period. Music and colour also characterise her work.
