I am in the planning stages and eventually going to construct an L shaped bar and was wondering just how much room should be left between the end of the wall and the start of the bar… so that you can walk through to the bar.. also is it a good idea to leave both sides of the L bar open for access to the bar?

Because I was limited on space I measured the width of the widest part of my body and added about 6-12inches to that. It’s pretty narrow and I usually slide in sideways but it works fine for my limited space. If you have more space I’d give yourself more room. As far as the “L” section, I would have that part go right up to the wall. That way it feels more connected to your house. Just my opinion though.

Depending on when your house was built, the typical hallway space is 36″. That is also the ideal dimension of your bar space (work area behind). If you are going to the smallest amount possible, you will have to shrink your “L”. I actually have a “C” design. I have the 36″ work space and it works out well. I have uploaded pictures over 2 weeks ago, but this site has not been updated in in as long. Good luck!

Just to clarify my posting, I was talking about the space between where you would enter the bar and the wall (the side), not the actual work space you would have behind the bar (if that makes sense)

Thanks…. i will probably go with 36 inches.. i should have enough space to allow that distance..

basically still in the planning/wood purchasing stages though….’

          Many thanks…
