What am I not seeing here?
The material list calls for 4 1″x2″x8′ premium birch, poplar or aspen.

The cut list calls for that board for the following:
    Front Base Frame – 94″ = 1 board
    Back Base Frame – 94″ = 1 board
    Base Sides and Middle 3×14.5 – 43.5″ = approx .5 boards
    Bottom Shelf Supports 8×14.5 – 116″ = 1.2 boards
    Mid shelf guides 2×16 – 32″ = .3 boards
    F&B Shelf Supports 8×46.75 – 366′ = 3.8 boards

That requires 8 boards. So, where’s the mistake. Do I need to buy 4 more boards to finish the project, or should I be using a different board for one of the items on the cut list?

Looks like you did the necessary brain work, so just go ahead and buy what you need. Some items (finish items) are optional and not included on the material shopping list.

Just finished my back bar. Material list is a great guideline. However I and I am sure almost everyone that has built one of these has deviated a little to somewhat. I certainly did. This will change your shopping list the same way.
