Im building a bar with a sports theme in the room. What im looking to do is place old baseball cards on the bar top and use some kind of finish to cover it all. Has any one have done something like this? I want the finish to be clear and smooth over the cards. Any suggestions on what to use would be great.
      Thanks

        JDB:

        Envirotex Lite. It’s a 2 part epoxy.
One coat equals 50 coats of varnish!

Ask your local hardware or home center store.
Home Depot or Lowes should have it.

It takes a few days to set up and it is self leveling.
Use a propane torch to remove all small air bubbles in the first few hours. Don’t worry, it is non-flammable.

Just quickly sweep the flame over the surface. DO NOT leave it in one place too long or it will boil and create more bubbles.

For an 8 foot bar top, be sure to get the two 1/2 gallon jugs.
This will make 1 gallon of Envirotex.

Also, be sure you have a leak proof trim edge built around the perimeter of the top, like the Kegger Bar plan shows.

Trust the admin about leak proofing the edge first. Don’t try and to use clear silicon . It repels envirotex too !!!! Use a coloured wood filler instead. TRUST ME I KNOW Ha. Ha.

Just finished my bar top… I used Envirotex Lite…. worked pretty good but what I bought locally was just enough for my seal coat.

I set football cards, some postcards and coasters on my oak top and covered it with the clear resin.

I ordered from http://www.MrFiberglass.com – his bar top resin. That was really good stuff and easy to work with. I used that for my first flood coat.

As my bar is outside and will be getting some sun on our lanai, I used Envirotex EX-74, which has built in UV Protection and will help keep it from yellowing. You can find who sells the EX-74 resin on the Envirotex web-site.

Most of the directions say you can use a hair dryer to get the tiny air bubbles out – but the propane torch worked incredibly better than I ever thought.

Another hint – I used plastic packing tape to help stop the spill over on the edges. It can be taken off as the acrylic begins to harden, and if hardened to the acrylic – you can just sand it off.

I am buliding the l-shaped version with work counter. What finish or protection should i use on that counter since there is a sink installed. The countertop material is 3/4″ oak plywood with oak hardwood trim. I will not be applying a stain since i like the natural look for the counter-top. The bar-top will have the envirotex finish, but i think that might be overkill for the counter top
            thanks,
            Zach
