      Here is my plan for finishing the top of my bar…I recently retired from the military. I plan on using all my emblems (cloth patches), challenge coins, medals, ribbons, badges and foreign currency for the top. I want to route out the bar top to fit each individual piece flush with the top of the wood. I could just put a piece of plexi glass over the top, but would prefer to enclose with some type of clear epoxy for a more permanent (and leak proof) finish.

      The wood is a nice piece of birch lament (same type as used on the poker table and back bar I’ve already built) with a very nice early America stain (also used on the poker table and back bar). The back bar and poker table each have several coats of polyurethane.

      Suggestions? Can I use Envirotex Lite over something thicker then Baseball cards?

        Hey

        You can definitely use it over thicker materials. I have just finished my own bar using the Envirotex Lite to encase hoceky pucks in my bar top.

        I have each puck sticking up 1/4″ above the bar surface… here are the results…

          Nice looking bar with the hockey pucks!

          Couple more questions;

          Has anyone tried using this stuff on soft objects or cloth? I’m wondering if this will work on my ribbons and medals.

          Second; What about air trapped under the object? Is this a concern? Once again, it goes back to the medals…the cloth portion will trap some air.

            AO,

            Why not try gluing the ribbons down first using wood glue. This will keep them flat and no air will get under them. The medals themselves won’t be an issue. Do not use clear silicone. Silicone will repel the envirotex. I’m sure the wood glue will workbut, try it out on a pice of fabric and a scrap piece of wood first.
