Well, no luck dismantling the outside of the fridge, its on there pretty well, looks like they just used a boatload of “Great STuff” type of insulation to hold the outside panels of the fridge on since there are only 4 screws holding the entire thing on. I took out the screws and pulled at the case for a little bit, but no luck, I didn’t want to pull too hard and tear the entire thing apart.

Anyway, I decided to say the heck with it and am using this fridge anyway. I’ll add a few fans and see what happens.

To answer the how long question, I look at all the stores I could think of that sell the fridges and they all basically sell the flat back design, with no exposed coils…Maybe the better bet would be to check garage sales, but I dont have the patience for that.

Yes, I saw the Sears model in person, the back of the fridge is exactly the same as the Walmart fridge, same compressor and everything.

Tonight I will have some time to tinker with the Walmart fridge and see if the cover will come off without too much effort to figure out where the coils actually are.

The sears model you describe is built exactly like the one from Walmart. (So similar, that it is probably manufactured by the same company) I was looking at that one before I bought the Walmart model. I figured for $80 for the Walmart unit, I could take it home and see for myself (since they didn’t have a display model).

I will have to take a closer look at the Walmart model to see if the case will come off without too much damage, as I dont want to wreck it if I don’t plan to use it. I will try to post some pictures if I am successful taking the cover off.
