I’m planning on building a bar based on the new plans that are in the work for the L-Shaped Kegger Bar Wet Bar.
The two mods are:
1) Due to room constraints, I need to reduce the length of the “side leg”.
2) I’m dropping the sink from the setup. So, technically, it’s not a wet bar but I like the staggered bar plan. What is the recommended minimum distance that should be available for the bartender? I don’t image more than two people ever needing to get behind there.
Related to that is how will it affect the amount of room available to store a keg(s)? I’m a homebrewer and would like to start kegging my beer, probably in Cornelius kegs. Ideally I will have enough room to have a tower with dual faucets. One for Guinness and the other for homebrew. How much room do I need to accommodate these? I would love extra room for a 6.5 gallon carboy for fermenting lagers.
BTW, I would need enough room for the Nitrogen/CO2 blend tank. Maybe a CO2 only tank as well?
Any other considerations that I may be overlooking?
Sorry for the numerous questions that run into one another but I think they are all interrelated.
Thanks so much for the advice
MattJanuary 16, 2007 at 6:20 pm #19928AnonymousGuestFor the size of the inside of the cooler, don’t forget about the tap height!!
I didn’t account for it and I had to do some last minute hacking on the inside to make room for a slim 1/6 for my Sam Adams keg (which was the whole reason for building the kegerator in the 1st place) and it really spoiled the insides of my cooler. It still functions, but I am stuck now with my configuration of kegs and can’t use all three taps that I was planning as a result.
Here’s a quick link to my photo Album
Also, for keg size, a handy guide can be found here…
With Homebrewing, count on wanting to get into look at your brew alot so you’ll want ample space to manuever.
Only two things affect the distances needed for behind the bar…
…and don’t be offended, Matty, because you asked and your screen name demands that I mention this…
1. Your Size.. the size of the bartender is pretty crucial, you certainly don’t want to build something that’s going to be a hassle to work behind.
2. The size of your room
Other than that, ther are no real guidelines
I’d do a test run in your kitchen.
Stand in front of one of the counters and actually see how much room you need behind you to get a keg into the cabinets below.
Good Luck!!
