can i just follow the l-shaped kegger bar plans ,but instead of building 1,just install a store bought 1.how would this work?
February 15, 2007 at 8:15 pm #19948AnonymousGuestI considered this as well Casper.
I think the main concern is whether you intend for the tap to run through your bar top. If so you will need to make sure the tap on the kegerator can disconnect and reattach to the bar top or if you will need to purchase a tap tower. You will also have to make sure it will fit underneath your bar, but I think an average size kegerator would (don’t hold me to that).
When I compared purchasing a kegerator to building the keg box in these plans, the latter was much cheaper. Unfortunately, I did this after the bar was complete and was forced to build my keg box without plans, just an idea of how it would work and a lot of great stuff spray foam. The end result was a success, but I wish I would have just followed the plans from the start.
And you can easily insert a keg box in the L-shaped bar plans. I would just incorporate the straight bar with a keg box into one leg of the L-shaped plan.
I realize I’m throwing a lot of info out there and hope I’m not making this any more confusing than it needs to be.
Good luck.February 16, 2007 at 4:18 pm #19949AnonymousGuestthanks beer baron.i was just going to go with a store bought cause i am not to handy with elctric and wiring and cutting. i plan on building the l-shaped kegger bar and just sliding the store bought into the section where the original box is built and run the tubing up to the counter top and have a tap tower on top of the bar.

I am not electrically inclined either. All you are basically doing when building the kegger box is taking a door of a compact refrigerator and building an insulated box which is then attached to the front. Basically making the refrigerator larger. The refrigerator doesn’t have to be disassembled in any way other than taking the door off.I would suggest looking at the plans before you buy the kegerator. There really is no wiring to be done. If you still don’t feel comfortable, then you have your answer. If you want I can send you some pictures of what mine looked like and give some detail of how I built it. Just send me your email address.
