The Power Supply I Originally used was an old model with a hard wired push button switch.
However, the new ATX power supplies now rely on a soft start through the motherboard. This is very easy to bypass just by inserting a jumper across the PS_ON# and COM on the Main Power Connector.

Just for you wire heads, the PSU_ON# is an active low signal. There is an internal pullup so when the connection is not pulled to TTL low, it is high and the supply is OFF.
Pulling this pin low turns on all the supply rails +3.3, +5 and +12.
+5VSB is always ON and is standby power for “wake on” circuits. You won’t be using it or any other connections on the Main Connector.

Once you insert a jumper using #18 wire, you can use the switch that is on the chassis of the power supply to shut it down. For powering fans, you will only be using the 4 pin Peripheral Power Connectors.

Cover the rest of the electrical connectors with black electrical tape to prevent possible short circuits.

The supplies can put on a good amount of current!

If this power supply business is too complicated, just locate some 120VAC muffin or box fans on Northern Tool or Grainger.

The reason I use 12vdc fans is that they are very quiet and you can buy cool LED fans that light up in red, blue or other cool colors.

      Thanks for the information.

I think I figured it out now. The tough part now is to get the wires through to the power source on the back side of the fridge.

      Thanks

If needed just add more wire and make the runs longer.
Use #18 wire, #24 will work too, but use common sense and don’t power 5 fans on skinny wire.
Cut and splice the wires, and run then through a small hole in the keg box or right between the side of the small fridge and the keg box fridge opening. Seal all openings with spray foam.
        It’s pretty simple.

I just bought a 500W ATX power supply. I tried jumping PS_ON and COM and the supply never turned on. Any clues? I read the manufacturers wiring diagram and it was exactly as described in the previous note.

I picked up the following 12v 500mA power supply at Radio Shack. Smaller and cleaner installation than using an old PC power supply. I have heard conflicting reports on PC power supplies, some say it will draw full power whenever power on regardless of the load and others say it will just draw whatever load is applied to it. My old PC power supply was 500 watts and decided to go with the following:

So after reading through many of the post…I have a general ideal of how to hook up fans with a pc power supply But i do have a couple questions

First question is if i want to hook up 2 fans in my keg box and 1 in the rear of the fridge, is there enough connector inputs on the power supply to do this or am I going to have to cut off the connectors splice the wires together and somehow reconnect it to the power supply with another type of connector?

Secondly…if I scratch the pc power supply and go with a ac to dc source such as the 12v one in radio shack. Is my understanding correct that I could just splice all the wires for the three fans and the power supply in parrellel and it should run the fans

I know this forum isnt that active which stinks but if there is any more info on hooking up the keg box as well as running electric through the bar please point me in that direction. I was trying to find the posts created in 2005 which stated that instructioins would be posted…did I miss them?

            Thanks for your help!!
