I’m looking at the straight kegger bar and I’m wondering– why build a kegbox? Doesn’t it make the refrigerator less efficient? Can’t you get a designated kegerator and run the lines through the top? Wouldn’t THAT be more energy efficient?

I’m confused for the “need” for the kegbox…

Thanks for the advice… I’m sure there’s a simple explanation. However, I’ve little carpentry experience and am not an engineer! :)

Im no expert, but the size of the cooler you’re making is much large, and can hold many more kegs, bottled beer and all sorts of stuff. it eliminates the need for 2 fridges.

dkort – I just finished building my bar and went the route you wanted to take… rather then spend $400 on materials to build a kegbox (and hope that everthing was EXACTLY correct and sealed… I bought a kenmore kegerator from Sears for $550… it comes with a 5lb. co2 tank and all… easy to hook up, little worries, and works great. You could probably run lines through the bar, but i just cut out a slot in the countertop wide enough for the keg tower to fit. I will post pics soon.
