Want to make the 8foot bar, but it really doesn’t look like a bar even as there is no “overhang” to allow you to sit with legs underneath the top, as you do at a real bar. Is it possible to widen the top maybe 12 inches to give this overhang or would that make it too unstable?

Not sure which pictures you are looking at, but there certainly is an overhang. You can increase it a bit, but 4 more inches is about all you want to go, otherwise you’ll just have a “breakfast bar”.

You want to be able to step up or “belly up” to the bar and be able to hit the footstep with your foot.

The amount of overhang is of course your personal preference, but to much (more than 12 inches is too much)
will look rather goofy and will tend to be “tippy” unless you anchor the bar to the floor.

I am 6′-4″ tall and the 5″-8″ over hang range is more than enough. You don’t need the arm rest right up to your chest.

The Kegger Bar has a bit more clearance.

The Kegger bar can be built without the Keg Box and is basically and improved straight bar.

I took my overhang to 8 inch works out nice plenty of room for legs and can reach footrest. Had to buy extra wood for top tho

When you added to the top did you reduce the case size. A 34′ bar seems pretty wide when the normal bar is around 16″ plus the drink well and arm rest so maybe 20-24″ total.
